I think it’s fair to say that we’ve all had to pick our jaws up off the floor at some point this week. Just when we thought Pepsi had offended the Internet enough, along came United Airlines, only to be followed up by Sean Spicer’s unfathomable comments that I won’t even repeat here. I’m not even sure I want to check social media for the rest of the weekend for fear of another outrageous comment or video. And I suppose shutting down is not all the bad considering it’s Passover and Easter. Let’s dive into a few stories for this week….
United Gets “Dragged” Through the Mud
Whoa, United. It’s not been a good run as of late. First the leggings nightmare and now forcibly “re-accommodating” a paying customer off a flight so the crew can have a seat. United took long to respond and issue an apology and its stock has since taken a dive. In the meantime, the internet has had a hayday with this. Have you seen the trending hashtag #NewUnitedAirlinesMottos?
McDonald’s Now Accepting Snaplications
HR departments, take note: McDonald’s may be onto something in Australia. To attract millennials into its workforce, McDonald’s is integrating Snapchat into its job application process. The ‘Snaplication’ involves the applicant sending McDonald’s a 10 second video about themselves while using a filter that places a McDonald’s employee hat and name badge over them. Clearly this isn’t a form of job application that could go mainstream, but for this age group and employer, I’d say it’s unique and on target.

Did you see the season premiere of Better Call Saul this week? Dunkin’ Donuts may become the new “it” fast food chain but HuffPo asks “Where’s the
beef chicken?” Haha!
Ada’s Sisters – Episode 60: A mechanical reproductive system, #hackathon, AI research moving to Canada and Kaya Thomas’s new app
We have to tell you about this working model of a female reproductive system, her name is Evatar. And it had its first period. We’ll get the chocolate and heating blanket, and maybe we’ll get it to download this new app by Kaya Thomas that helps you find books written or about people of color?
Lots happening in Toronto, with Google moving their AI research up here, and the BlockChain hackathon is coming up on us, at the end of the month. But hey BlockChain, would it have killed you to include a couple women or people of colour in your speaker list? And while we’re talking about bad news, can we talk about the penis seat? Because we’d rather talk about it than SIT on it.
