Instagram DMs Are Now Available on Desktop
Social media managers, rejoice! You no longer have to pull out your phone to manage and respond to brand DMs thanks to a new update from Instagram this week.

You can now manage Instagram DMs from your desktop browser: send, receive, and reply your heart out! Users will also have the option to enable desktop notifications so a message never goes unread.
As of today, the feature is now available to everyone. Yay!
YouTube “Shorts” is the Platform’s TikTok Competitor
According to new information released this week by The Information, YouTube is working on a TikTok competitor known as “Shorts.”
Shorts will be part of the YouTube app and won’t function as a standalone product. YouTube plans to leverage its extensive library of licensed music to gain leverage over TikTok.
There’s no real timeline on when we might see Shorts come to life, but YouTube hopes to launch the new feature by the end of the year.
Will the Google-owned company have what it takes to stop the rise of TikTok? Only time will tell!
Apple Mobility Data Provides Key COVID-19 Insights
This week Apple released “Mobility Trends Reports” — a set of aggregated data from its Maps application to share insights around the change in user behaviour as a result of COVID-19.
The information reflects the number of routing requests made through the app. The anonymized data is collected to provide a city, country, or region-level view, representing the change over time to an area’s number of pedestrians, drivers, or transit takers.
As shared by TechCrunch, the release of this data could be very useful for policy makers looking to study the impact of COVID-19, as well as the effect of strategies put in place to mitigate its spread.
The reports are updated on an ongoing basis and can be accessed via the company’s website.
LinkedIn Events is Now Available to All Pages in Light of COVID-19 Lockdowns
To make it easier for companies and professionals to connect during this time, LinkedIn has now made its new Events option available for all company pages.
The feature was previously only available to select company pages, but the business network recently announced it would make it more broadly available to offset COVID-19 impacts.
Creating your own event is simple – just head to your company page and use the admin tools (available on desktop only).
Whether you’re hosting a webinar, meet-up, or live stream, LinkedIn Events might be worth a try.
